How I do make therapy less expensive?

Fortunately there are a number of ways to reduce therapy costs:

  1. Make sure you are taking full advantage of your insurance plan. Most insurances will provide partial reimbursement for sessions with an out-of-network therapist, even if the sessions occurred before you were insured. Read more on how to use out-of-network benefits.
  2. Utilize a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account. HSAs and FSAs allow you to put aside money tax-free for qualified medical expenses, including therapy sessions. If you have a high deductible plan, are not claimed as someone’s dependent, and are not enrolled in Medicare, you may be able to set up an HSA; otherwise, consider setting up an FSA. 3. Ask for a sliding scale. Particularly if you have an established relationship with a therapist and your insurance changes, ask if they can work with your budget; many therapists are willing to be flexible on out-of-pocket costs.
